Revisiting the front doors again
I have already deaden the front doors on the Ampera and even revisited that area to add Dodo Super Liner behind the speaker.
But I was not that happy with the result as the MLV was not covering the entire door, the door card would simply not fit and I ended up with a compromise. Since I have ordered some extra Dynamat Extreme to deaden the floor and had quite a bit of Dodo Super Liner left I went back to revisit the front doors and went for almost full coverage with Dynamat and Dodo Super Liner on the outer door skin.
This would ensure that the areas without MLV would have some noise blocking and the rest of the door would block that extra bit of noise.
I also added a bit more Dynamat to the door card to avoid any rattles.
After that there was no more Dynamat Extreme left, it was time to cover as much as possible of the outer door skin with Dodo Super Liner to block noise and heat.
Working on the outer door skin is always a challenge as there is limited space to access it and requires cutting little pieces of Dynamat or Dodo Liner and put them together like a puzzle.
The results
The noise from cars passing by is much more muted than before. The MLV was doing a great job, but under the crash structure where there was no MLV noise could still enter the cabin. Now it's very quiet.
The quality of the sound system also improved, the bass is now powerful from the front woofers and it just sounds better.
In terms of noise measurements at 80km/h there is a reduction that is inferior to half a decibel, at 120km/h the noise levels are about the same.
In terms of weight I added another 1.2kg of Dynamat and 400g of Dodo Super Liner on both doors.
I think the car is now finished, if anything I might add just Dodo Super Liner on the rear doors to block heat and some extra noise, other than that, now wind is the only noise audible, but that now is not fixable with deadening, only messing with the rubber seals. Also the windows are the weakest link letting noise inside the cabin.
